Worldwide Part Sales and Distribution Policies

Product Support Policy
Our goal is to provide you with the capability to use your Universal Instruments equipment for the full life cycle of that product. With that in mind, we pledge to support service parts for a minimum of seven years after the last date of manufacture. As long as demand exists for a specific part, we will continue to forecast sufficient quantities to fulfill the expected requirements. Once the product is no longer eligible for support and there is no demand for a part, that part's status will change to make-to-order.

For further information regarding the support status of a specific product, contact the appropriate technical specialist or your local field engineering office.

Make-To-Order Items
Due to their unique nature, make-to-order items require longer lead times. We recommend you carry inventory of these items if you wish to maintain production service levels on some of our older products. Any item designated as make-to-order with a price of $300 or more requires a signed purchase order before processing. Once processed, make-to-order parts cannot be cancelled or returned.

Warranty Policy
Universal Instruments extends a one-year limited warranty on new service parts, a six month limited warranty* on remanufactured parts, and a 90 day limited warranty* on repaired parts. The warranty period begins on the invoice date, covers the original purchaser, and protects against failure and breakage due to defects in material or workmanship. Warranty replacements will be shipped by the courier of our choice.

Universal's liability under this warranty is limited to replacement or repair of the defective part. The warranty does not cover wearable parts or consumable items that have worn due to normal use. Electronic service parts will be accepted for warranty replacement only in cases where Universal can determine that the cause of failure was due to a manufacturing defect.

To return defective parts for exchange under the warranty program, simply contact your local sales office for a return authorization number (RA#). You will be asked to supply your original purchase order number and Universal's invoice number.

To ensure prompt service, shipments must be properly packaged (printed circuit boards must be packaged using anti-static packaging and must be wrapped in foam) and identified with the Return Authorization number (RA#) on the outside of the box and on the packing list.

All correspondence concerning service parts, warranty claims, and returns should be directed to your local sales office.

* Under our six month and 90 day limited warranty, Universal Instruments reserves the right to determine the appropriate remedy (replacement with another remanufactured or repaired part or credit) for each claim.

THIS WARRANTY IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, WHETHER STATUTORY, EXPRESS, OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. IN NO EVENT SHALL UNIVERSAL INSTRUMENTS CORPORATION BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, HOWEVER CAUSED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR OPERATION OF REPLACEMENT PARTS.

Return Policy (exclusive of warranty)
Universal will accept the return of service parts, at no charge to you, for credit up to 30 days from the date of invoice in accordance with the following guidelines:

1. A return authorization number (RA#) must be issued by your local sales office. Please provide your original purchase order number and Universal Instruments' invoice number when requesting a RA#. Be prepared to give the Universal Instruments' representative a detailed explanation of the problem or reason for return.

This RA# must be clearly marked on the outside of the return package and on the packing list to avoid processing delays. The return authorization will be valid for a period of 30 calendar days from the date of issuance. Returns received after that time are subject to further evaluation and potential return to originator.

2. Returns will not be accepted for service parts determined to be obsolete or non-active.

3. All service parts must be new and in "as purchased" condition.

4. You are responsible for ensuring that returned parts are properly packaged. Credit will not be issued if returned parts are damaged due to improper packaging. PC boards must be in their original, unopened packaging.

5. Returns must be shipped freight prepaid.

Please note:
Any replacement part returned 30 to 90 days from the time of invoice will be subject to a 30% restocking charge. Any return granted after 90 days will be at Universal Instruments' discretion.
Requests for the return of parts after 24 months will be forwarded to Universal Instruments' Remanufactured Machine Division for consideration as a possible "buy-back" for use in remanufacturing.

Return authorizations will not be issued for make-to-order parts.

All correspondence concerning service part warranties, claims, returns, and adjustments should be directed to your local sales office.
